CAPE COD MEMORIES

An Exploration of Recreating Reality

This project recreates the vast sand dunes iconic to Cape Cod's beaches, inspired after my first trip to the northeast coast. A result of many different iterations, originally this project was simply the environment created from actual photos taken on location. Eventually, I felt this project needed an incentive of exploration and more interaction, so I added various memories you can remember when prompted. See if you can find all three!

INSPIRATION

This project was based on the large, dry sand dunes of Cape Cod during the early spring. I knew it'd be a compelling environment to recreate in Unity, so I captured these reference photos to guide my development and remind myself how all of these pieces should work together.

A large learning experience from this project was the development of my own textures to paint the world I was creating. All of the textures used to create this environment were from real photos I took on location. In addition, I generated normal maps for each of these textures, which in turn created realistic depth that was both dynamic and repeatable.
